Happy New Years Resolutions

img_1901

WOW, it’s 2019 already!

I’m not usually the type to make New Years resolutions but this year is different.  There are things happening, as time marches on, that create discomfort for me and I would like to resolve them.  I resist putting the effort towards their resolution which seems crazy but human nature is like that and change isn’t always easy or fun.  So making a promise to myself, with patience and mindfulness of my resistance, feels right and happy.

If the untidiness of your home is creating any discomfort for you, I can help.  You may be thinking, “I can do this, all I need is a few hours” but life is busy and a couple months later a few hours has not materialized.  In a session I can have a lot of your home ship shape and make suggestions for maintaining it.  My favorite is returning regularly for a Home Reset.  I tidy up your home putting everything back in it’s place and finding places for anything new, plus I do laundry.

I LOVE to organize and look forward to helping as many people as I can this year feel great about their surroundings.

Perfect Peppering

Fresh ground pepper is a tasty addition to so many dishes but the pepper mill leaves it’s mark wherever you set it down.  Here is an easy solution…put a lid under it.  Odds are pretty good that you have a lid in your kitchen that works already.  Turn that lid upside down and you have your pepper mill’s new landing station.  Get cooking with less mess!

The Power of Light & Smell

The days are officially getting shorter and my countdown to winter solstice has begun.  I am a lover of warmth and light which makes Seattle winters a challenge but I have found a few things that bolster me through.  My favorite is Big Dipper Wax Works candles.  These candles not only give off the natural light and warmth of fire, they smell incredible.  I breath deeper, I have more energy, and the long dark nights become cozy and inviting.

Getting into the habit of lighting a candle when the sun goes down (or when I get home) has made a world of winter difference for me.

Another thing that helps is living in surroundings that I love; coming home to a place for everything and everything is in it’s place.  If you’d like help making your home feel cozy and inviting this winter and ready to brighten your days, contact me.

Vertically Thinking

A shoe box, or any smallish box, will store container lids vertically and help prevent lid matching rage, especially after you toss the containers and lids that no longer have mates.  This method also allows storage containers and their lids to be put away in other places than drawers; like a corner cupboard.

A magnetic knife strip is a great way to get the knife block off the counter, and it does not have to be horizontal on a wall, vertical works too.  The knives pictured here are very handy right above the cutting board on the edge of a cupboard.

It’s so nice to have the modern TP roll without the spring insert but I have yet to see one that stays parallel to the floor after installation.  That drives me crazy! The solution, reinstall it vertically.

Ready for a Night on the Town

A fun way to display a collection of purses; a curtain rod and some S hooks.

The curtain rod can have various ends, finals, adding to the style of the room.

Or maybe you have a collection of beautiful scarves that get buried.  Take away the S hooks and throw the scarves over the rod.  They will add color to the room and be ready to coordinate to the days outfit warding away winter chills.

Be out the door in less than a half an hour for a fabulous car camping adventure.

All you need pre-packed in a small storage area.

3 sturdy bins:

  1. General camping gear, cooking and eating utensils, bug spray,  head lamps, etc. https://www.backcountry.com/sc/car-camping-checklist
  2. Sleeping mats and bags
  3. Empty for non perishable food

2 coolers: for a weekend or a week size or maybe one for beverages and one for food.

Tent, camp chairs, stove, bag of activities (frisbee, floaties, cards, etc.) and fire wood.

Load up the car and swing by the grocery store on your way out.

PS: When you get home: dry out the tents, wash the sleeping bags, restock the supplies and you’ll be ready to go again.

A Week in Arizona…

It was hot and beautiful and very nice to spend time with my folks.  My mom’s birthday is soon; I was inspired to paint her a little pineapple palm with one of my daughter’s favorite quotes written on the back:

BE A PINEAPPLE, stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet on the inside.

Stay tuned for more posts on organizational goodness and life’s general beauty…

I’m excited to be doing something I love; building strong and lasting relationships through helping people order and manage their surroundings.
